Project Journal

September 30, 2008

Hey all!

Its fall already and we all know what that means - changing colours, back to school, and of course, the start of a new Reduce the Juice school project! And in the spirit of changing colours, we here at RTJ have decided to change it up a bit and add another type of school project to list - an anti-idling campaign!

As you all know by now, the theme of our work in Waterloo is all focused on transportation and reducing personal vehicle emissions, so we've teamed up with some keen students and teachers in a grade 10 Sustainable Living class at Waterloo Collegiate Institute to design and carry out this project. I've already had the chance to talk to the students of the class and give them the low-down on what's being planned for this school year, and let me just say one thing - watch out Waterloo! The juices are flowing already (and NOT the kind we're trying to reduce!). They're especially excited at the plan of going into 3 local elementary schools and teaching the younger kids about idling.

All in all, we've gotten out to a fantastic start here in Waterloo, but the winter months are ahead, which means more idling and more work for these guys and gals. I have nothing but positive attitudes for this project, but stay tuned for progress updates!
