Reduce the Juice

Hey everyone,

Our solar powered vehicle is coming along really well.  I have been learning a lot and gaining tons of hands on experience, especially with welding!  The team has been working in overdrive mode in order to get the project completed, but all this time being spent is totally worth it.  I really like working on this project after school because I get to work with my friends on something that not many other people get the opportunity to do.  And we also get to work with the Reduce the Juice team, and they’re our favourite people.

Hey everyone!

So it’s fall again and with the starting of TWO school projects, the Reduce the Juice team is busy as usual. This is an exciting and different experience for me as this is my first time being involved in the process of a RTJ renewable energy project. I’m learning lots already as the design process begins at WCI.

I had the chance to meet the after-school club last Thursday at their official first meeting of the year. I was amazed and surprised and inspired by all the students that showed up. Not only in numbers (over 30!) but also because it’s such a motivated and diverse groups of kids. There are girls, boys, juniors, seniors, design students, auto tech students, com tech students, geography students… and the list goes on! Even though it was a info session about what it’s all about, by the end of the hour, ideas were being shot back and forth and we all left excited for next Thursday to come. The “homework” assignment given was to research a form of an alternative vehicle, which could include hydrogen, electric, hybrids, solar, biodiesel etc. in order to get a better idea of which one would be the most practical to design and build with the least amount of emissions produced.

We also determined that there would be a PR group in charge of finding sponsors, advertising in the community and around the school, and documenting the progress, which will include web updates in the form of a school blog. The blog will be linked to the RTJ website, so that means updates will come straight from the source! That’s your cue to check back regularly to follow the project!
