June 11, 2007 - Reduce the Juice Receives Trillium Grant RTJ was fortunate to receive a Trillium grant to build the organization. This money will allow RTJ to expand to our neighbouring municipalities to help them Reduce their Juice too. RTJ will use this money to hire a full time staff person (our first) and plan projects in Waterloo and Wellington Regions. Demand Management - All three Reduce the Juice Team leaders as well as Theresa Sauren were on hand to accept an award from the OEA for mentorship in conservation for our leadership in developing conservation and renewable energy knowledge and skills among students and in cultivating youth leaders and mentors within the community. Thank you to the OEA for an informative day as well as the recognition for our efforts! ----------------------------- May 11, 2006 - Orangeville District High School to Host Electric Car Races ODSS is hosting an electric car race and RTJ has pitched in a solar panel to help them win the big race. Peter Love the Chief Energy Conservation Officer for the Province of Ontario came to a celebration at Shelburne high school to award certificates of recognition to the Reduce the Juice Team and the students and teachers of Centre Dufferin District High School for the summer energy conservation program and the Green Power Project. Presenting the certificate to Jeff Wellman, the teacher who championed the installation of the renewable energy system, Peter Love saluted the team work of school and community in his remarks, "The Green Power Project shows that community-based initiatives can make a real change and that schools can lead by example in the community." The RTJ team from the Shelburne 2005 project was interviewed twice for television in the span of a week! Roger Klein from The New VR came down from Barrie looking for a story on energy consumption and conservation. He followed the students while they did a home audit of the Mayor, Ed Crewson's house. That very night while doing the door to door shift, many residents said "hey didn't I just see you on the news?" ----------------------------- Waub Rice
from the Weather Network also did a story on the team which thanks to
the Weather Networks' cross Canada coverage was seen by people we know
from as far away as Calgary. That's putting Energy Conservation and Shelburne
