Reduce the Juice Waterloo is a youth led project designed to encourage residents of Waterloo to reduce their emissions from personal vehicle use by 5%. We plan on achieving this by meeting people where they live, work and shop and offering them easy to implement actions to increase their driving efficiency, reduce driving and use alternative transportation. Meet the team: Sara Wicks was a team leader in the 2006 Orangeville residential campaign and a Project Coordinator for the 2007 Business Conservation Initiative. She is a veteran of RTJ projects and has returned to run the show this year. She will be leading the summer project and will stick around for the fall to help us run the school project as well. She has completed three years of her International Development in the Biophysical Environment degree at the University of Guelph and is taking some time off to help out RTJ in 2008. She is very excited to expand into the Waterloo Region and to offer up her newly acquired knowledge about transportation conservation. Her goal in life is to change the world. Ali MacGregor has just completed her third year at McMaster University majoring in Kinesiology and she is a lifelong resident of Kitchener. Her interest in environmental issues has been increasing over the years and she is now ready to take her personal actions to the next level by engaging in outreach work in her own community. She is excited to be able to share her passion for the environment with Reduce the Juice and the Waterloo community. Sabrina Martin is on her way towards a nursing degree from McMaster University. Her passion is for holistic health and education. She feels her talents lie in communicating the benefits of positive environmental actions to people and she thinks she's got the right stuff to make this project a huge success. She is excited to be a part of Reduce the Juice and be able to give back to her own community. The RTJ Student Auditors Waterloo 2008 William has just completed his fifth year at WCI and come fall will be studying Computer Science at the University of Waterloo. His interests include computer programming, math, science, and global issues. He has joined RTJ in hopes of helping Waterloo move toward a more sustainable future. Ellen enjoys geology, music and Latin. She has recently graduated from WCI and in the fall will be entering her first year in Earth Systems Science at McGill. Ellen joined Reduce the Juice this summer to apply her vast knowledge of environmental issues and make a difference in the community. Heather has just graduated from WCI and is attending Wilfred Laurier for Psychology and Business in the fall. She has recently found herself very interested in conserving energy and gasoline. When RTJ made a trip to her school, it sounded like an amazing opportunity and she wanted to get involved! Laura is going into her fifth year at WCI. Having a strong interest in geography and the environment, Reduce the Juice seemed like a perfect fit for her. After high school she plans on furthering her knowledge of geographic information systems and geography at the University of Waterloo. Lily is 18 years old and hopes to pursue an education in Environmental Studies at the University of Waterloo. In her spare time she enjoys film making, jewelry making and running. She decided to join Reduce the Juice because it promotes environmental awareness. By being a student auditor she feels that she is doing her part to help the environment. Aaron just finished Grade 12 at WCI. His hobbies include wakeboarding, playing music, and reading. He joined the Reduce the Juice team to do his part in preserving our environment so future generations will enjoy it as much as he does. Erik is going into Grade 12 at WCI. He enjoys biking, playing music, and keeping healthy in his spare time, and feels that keeping the earth healthy is just as important. Erik joined Reduce the Juice to make a change in his community and we're confident that he will do just that! Graham has just finished Grade 10 at WCI. His hobbies include sports, weightlifting and playing musical instruments. He is looking forward to the summer ahead, because there is nothing he likes more than Reducing the Juice! Daniel has recently graduated from WCI and come fall will be pursuing a Business degree at Wilfred Laurier University. Claim to fame: fastest person in an RTJ interview to know what animal they want to be, which by the way is a cougar. Invest in Green! Joel is entering Grade 12 at Waterloo Collegiate. He is interested in music, social marketing and he loves to learn! He joined Reduce the Juice because he feels that cars are taking over the road! Ride a bike, take the bus, walk is his motto! Chloe is going into Grade 11 at WCI. In school she enjoys business, art, history and is passionate about dance. She joined Reduce the Juice to become more educated about vehicle emissions and the effects on the environment. She enjoys interacting with others so this was the perfect opportunity for her to connect with her community. Julie is going into grade 12 at WCI in the fall. She joined Reduce the Juice because she thinks they have simple and effective (and uber cool) ways to help the environment, and she is really excited to be part of the team that lets people know what that is. She also enjoys music, film-making and anything that concerns making the world a better place for everybody :) Lucky is 17 years old and is going into her 4th year at WCI. She has a keen interest in geography and is enrolled in the Sustainability class at WCI that will be working with RTJ in the fall! She's excited to be the veteran of the class and help teach her fellow classmates everything that she knows about transportation, idling, climate change and of course juice-reducing! |
