Who We Are
Reduce
the Juice is a student led initiative designed to encourage residents
of Orangeville to reduce their electricity use by 5%. We plan to achieve
this by engaging people face to face on their doorstep and providing
them with useful tools for energy conservation.
Meet Our Team Leaders
Sarah Fairlie
is going into her fourth year on her way to obtaining a BSc in Environmental
Chemistry from McGill University in Montreal. She is excited to be home
in Mulmur for the summer to slot in some quality time with her friends,
family, and horse. She had a great time working with Reduce the Juice
Shelburne last summer and hopes to help Orangeville follow Shelburne's
lead for a 5% reduction in their electricity use over the course of the
summer.
Phoebe
Lusk is going into her last year at the University of Guelph on her
way to completing a Bachelor of Arts in the English Honours program. She
has lived in Orangeville her entire life and has seen it grow into the
wonderful town it is today. She is looking forward to implementing the
Reduce the Juice project so more exciting changes can be seen. In her
spare time she enjoys taking bike rides around town and keeping in shape
- both of which will help her bring the Reduce the Juice message to your
door!
Sara Wicks
is enrolled in her second year at the University of Guelph majoring in
International Development. She has lived in Orangeville for 15 years and
graduated from Westside Secondary School. On the Reduce the Juice Project
"Off-season" she is snowboarding at Blue Mountain. Sara is very
excited to be at home for the summer and to be able to help to Reduce
the Juice!
Meet
Our Student Auditors
Tammy
Tammy is 18 years old and has recently finished her final year at ODSS.
She will be attending Wilfred Laurier University in the fall where she
will be majoring in liberal arts. Tammy is very interested in Reduce
the Juice because she enjoys teaching people about energy conservation.
Tammy hopes to use this unique experience as a RTJ student auditor to
make a difference within her community.
James
James is 19 years old and has recently graduated from ODSS. He is enrolled
at McMaster University for the fall semester where he will be taking
religious studies. Reduce the Juice is a great opportunity for James
because of his interest in renewable energy. He is looking forward to
learning about the RTJ energy trailer so he can spread awareness about
renewable energy.
Jon
Jon is an 18 year old student at ODSS. After high school, Jon plans
to attend Humber College where he would like to study jazz music. Being
part of the Reduce the Juice team has "charged him up" about
energy conservation. Jon plans to use his energy-saving expertise as
a RTJ team member to teach his friends and family about small things
that can make a big difference. To further his knowledge, Jon will be
learning about solar and wind energy through the RTJ energy trailer.
Jay
Jay is an 18 year old graduate from Robert F. Hall high school. Jay
became very interested in philosophy and social sciences in high school
and will pursue these interests next year at the University of Toronto.
Jay feels that the Reduce the Juice project is a great start to solving
global problems by creating awareness and making a difference in one
community at a time. This summer, Jay is also looking forward to working
on the RTJ energy trailer to further his knowledge on renewable energy.
Derek
Derek is 17 years old and entering his final year at ODSS. When he's
not educating Orangeville about electricity conservation, he's skateboarding
and biking. Derek enjoys working with people, so he is especially interested
in the door-to-door aspect of Reduce the Juice. He is excited to personally
speak to homeowners about doing their part to help the environment while
saving them money on their hydro bills. Derek is also helping with the
RTJ energy trailer, looking at the technical side to renewable energy.
T.J.
T.J. is 16 years old and entering his fourth year at ODSS. After high
school, T.J. hopes to enroll at Humber College for comedy writing and
performance. T.J. enjoys the person-to-person interaction as a RTJ student
auditor and the feeling that he's making a difference. T.J. can't wait
to see how successful the program will be at the end of the summer and
is positive that Orangeville will meet the 5% reduction goal.
Jessica
Jessica is 18 years old and has recently graduated from ODSS. She will
be attending Mersehurst College in Pennsylvania where she will be studying
to become a personal fitness trainer. Jessica was determined to join
the Reduce the Juice team to have a unique and fun summer job that would
help educate her about current global environmental issues. Since joining
the RTJ team, Jessica has changed her thoughts on conserving energy,
and is excited to tell others what she has learned.
Stephanie
Stephanie is 17 years old and has just graduated from ODSS. She will
be attending the University of Waterloo in September for environmental
studies. Stephanie is proud to be working for Reduce the Juice this
summer because she is making a mark in her community while having fun.
While at school, Stephanie hopes to participate in more energy conservation
programs and educate fellow students on what she has learned as a RTJ
student auditor.
Lauren
Lauren is 16 years old and approaching her last year at Westside Secondary
School. Lauren loves art and fashion. After high school, she plans to
attend Ryerson University for fashion communication. Lauren loves working
for Reduce the Juice because she has met a diverse group of people,
built teamwork skills and learned about how important energy generation
and conservation is in Ontario.
Elizabeth
Elizabeth is 18 years old and is a graduate of ODSS. She will be attending
Queen's University where she will major in political studies and economics.
Her experience with Reduce the Juice has influenced her to pursue a
career in environmental policy. So far, RTJ has been a great summer
experience for Elizabeth, and she especially enjoys talking to residents
about the many ways that they can conserve energy, save money and preserve
the environment.
Adrienne
Adrienne is an 18 year old recent graduate from ODSS. She will be attending
the University of Guelph in September where she will be studying bio-medical
sciences. Adrienne joined the Reduce the Juice team because of the unique
summer job opportunity and because it catered to her interests in science
and
technology. So far, Adrienne is very impressed at the positive response
that she is receiving from Orangeville residents and how willing everyone
is to do their part to conserve energy.
Sydney
Sydney is 16 years old and going into grade 11 at ODSS. In the future,
she hopes to pursue a career in the medical field. This summer, Sydney
is excited to educate Orangeville residents about energy conservation
at local events while serving solar-powered snow cones. As a Reduce
the Juice member, Sydney hopes to convince the residents to practice
energy conserving behavior to help reach the 5% goal.
